Lacy Overley, Therapist

(LPC)

My name is Lacy Overley, and I have a passion for working with individuals from a person-centered perspective, where I aim to provide a safe space for all people to explore who they are and how to be their most genuine self in reaching their goals. Through developing a therapeutic relationship I believe in being with another person to help them see what it is already within them can help empower them to heal and start thriving.

I have been working in counseling for 15 years and in academia as a professor of counseling for 11 years. Before becoming a professor my focus on practicing was as a counselor, clinical director, and supervisor for a community-based nonprofit clinic housed within Ole Miss seeing children, adolescents, and parents through play therapy and expressive arts; play therapy in school based therapy; and adults within the university setting adjusting to college, dealing with trauma and difficult life circumstances, as well as anxiety, depression, and grief.

I then shifted my focus to training and supervision when I was hired at Arkansas State University in 2013. While at Arkansas State, I had the opportunity to teach clinical courses, social and cultural foundations, play therapy courses and clinicals, and co-direct and supervise in the student-led clinic where we served the community and university. My focus was working with interns who specialized in play therapy and expressive arts working with children, parents, adults with disabilities, and adolescents and adults.

I am now working as an adjunct with The Chicago School online Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and shifting my focus back into clinical work and continue to supervise clinicians working toward their Register Play Therapist credentials.
