Susannah Manney, Therapist
As a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) and Certified Perinatal Mental Health provider (PMH-C) this is where I come in, to not only create the space but to hold the space for you when it feels too big and too heavy of a burden for you to carry alone. After years of experience working with women whose mental health struggles began in the postpartum period and working in women’s athletics at the collegiate level, I found that I enjoy helping women struggling with our most unique women’s issue to find healing and have more access to quality mental health care. I use an integrative approach to therapy; ensuring I use different therapeutic techniques including, person centered, narrative, feminist, reality, humanistic, systemic and integrated, Sandtray therapy and more to facilitate your healing, growth and self discovery in a way that is most beneficial to you and your needs. I hold space for you to be empowered along your healing journey. The best part is you won’t have to do it alone trying to read all the self help books, find all the self care tips & tricks or anonymously posting in online women’s groups on Facebook seeking support and help. While I believe the words of Virginia Satir that it’s important to “do what you can, with what you have, where you are,” and that each of these resources are beneficial to include in your healing toolkit, I want you to have all the resources and tools you need to heal in your life and having a therapist to walk alongside you and guide your process is one of the greatest assets you can have along your journey. And at the heart of it all and what I consider to be the single most important part of therapy is building a strong therapeutic relationship as priority number one. I recognize for us to walk this healing journey together and for you to truly find the healing you are seeking, we have to build trust, safety, security and rapport so that you are comfortable with me and the process. If we don’t focus here, I’ll simply be another person you’ll build defenses with and that will keep both you and I stuck on your journey towards healing. I lead both my life and my therapeutic practice by the words of Carl Jung, he stated, “Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul, just be another human soul.” And that is what I will do for you as your therapist. I may know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as I walk alongside you in your journey towards healing I’m just a human soul helping and serving another.
