Angela “Angie” McKinney, Therapist

I have worked as a counselor in the field for nine years. I earned a Master’s of Science in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M. My career began as an inpatient therapist for children and adolescents. I, also, have provided therapeutic services for families and adults in outpatient, intensive outpatient, and school-based settings. My counseling background is grounded in Rogerian person-centered therapy. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and incorporate play therapy and sand tray therapy. I continuously seek training to treat ADHD, anxiety, mood disorders, personality disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and severe psychiatric problems like suicidal thoughts and attempts, self-harming behaviors and schizophrenia. I grew up in a military family with the benefit of moving to new towns and schools. I learned how to navigate dynamics related to school systems, peer challenges, and seeking to connect with others. I thrive in counseling because I am empathic, caring, nonjudgmental, and with deep focus, listening. I seek to serve. I am grateful to have family with whom I enjoy spending time as well as gardening.
